I miss it badly at times; teaching theater and speech at our local homeschool community. Over the 15 years served, I was able to bring to life some of my favorite stories from Shakespeare to Austin, some day I'll blog about each one, but not today because their stories are not as dear to me as the personal gain my family experienced through friendships formed and the collective growth of a generation of kids empowered by the skills learned and practiced on our stage.
Today, Reckless Resale has had it's door open for less than a year, and more than a necessary second income (which every home needs, am I right?), I personally needed motivation to make this enterprise a life satisfying venture. What I needed was to identify my purpose.
Enter Stephanie Booth from the Successful Creative. She is a business coach and founder of an online community that offers educational tools and training for creative entrepreneurs to find success.
One of many tools she introduced, and quite possibly the most important, was the positive impact and necessity of identifying a Purpose. Without a purpose, creative motivation can turn weary and growth will stifle.
I knew making that second income could not be my only purpose for this business. So thinking back through my varied careers in service and retail industries that a career without a purpose was not going to bring satisfaction and most likely lead to the failure of this venture.
But by thinking back and carefully considering the reason, or purpose I stayed within a nfp position with teen theater was constantly witnessing the transformative experience theater had on my students. And one all important ingredient was all necessary to complete the speech or roll, whether giving a speech or taking a roll in a play, I recognized early on that a well chosen garment could boost the confidence needed to help my students overcome the fears associated with public appearance.
With that purpose identified the whole family here at Reckless Resale has embraced our mission to help women of all sizes find the fashions they need to feel confident.
