Having lived just north of Detroit during the 70's & 80's, it was convenient to cross the border into Canada. My parents took us there often because it was a destination my father was well acquainted. His parents would visit and vacation at Point Pelee, Ontario, Canada during the 1940's. Known as being the southernmost tip of the Canadian mainland, it became a place where we would play in the waters and walk along the pointed sandbar.
Not having formal seat-belt laws in Michigan until 1980, we drove through Canada strapped in our seat-belts like animals (we thought). Whenever we'd return safely to the US we ecstatically removed our seat-belts to live in reckless American style.
Dad always drove through Canada when traveling from Detroit to New England and back again. I especially hated the safe seat-belt laws because it meant I had to sit still for hours. Mid-point in the Detroit-Windsor tunnel we would gleefully remove our seat-belts and begin wiggling all over the van. It's really a miracle any of us actually survived childhood.
As teens in the 1980's, we crossed into Canada to partake in their coming of age laws and eat Hawaiian Pizza; a pizza with cool new toppings like Canadian Bacon, and pineapple.
(not originally from Hawaii)
Of course, after 9/11, that all changed. The borders of our mutual countries tightened security for the safety of their citizens. But the love between Detroit and Windsor could never part. The Detroit Marathon still maps between our two countries. It now charts runners over the Ambassador Bridge and back through the Detroit Windsor Tunnel.
My sister, Edy, is an eloquent storyteller. She often writes stories or shares histories about living in a border state. She remembers the Canadian PBS channel broadcasting Sesame Street in French, I remember the hockey games Dad was always streaming via our high-powered TV antenna.
So today, I fondly remember Canada Day as a precursor to our coming Independence Celebration in three days. Oh, Canada, may we always be close friends and always allies.
Reckless Resale has a budding relationship with Canada. Our featured product, Love my Hips jeans & jeggings, are supplied by Nygard International, a clothing design company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. We fell in love with the product after meeting their reps at our first trade show. A great product, from good people, is always a joy to represent.

Military life is hard. You have probably heard that before, but we have the fortune of witnessing this second hand through the life of our daughter, the spouse of an Airman serving in the US Air Force. After being pressured to move their wedding date up to have her recognized as a spouse before his first deployment was an emotional experience for our entire family. Since that time, they've moved overseas, worked hard to make authentic relationships only to be moved to their second base back in the states. Imagine in this situation, what a fortunate blessing it is when you form relationships with other military spouses that understand the required flexibility this lifestyle demands.
We were fortunate to be able to share RR's new Military Discount (30%!) with our daughter and two friends that tracked across the US from their separated bases to meet up in Chicago and Reckless Resale for some of our Luxe Denim Skinny Jeans.
It was a little cooler than they expected, but with these jeans on, they were still ready to take on Chi Town.
Don't wait long, you will truly miss the train if you don't get a pair of these amazing jeans, now tested and approved by strong military spouses like you! Yes, if you or a spouse is serving in one of our military branches, please let us know so we can bless you with the same 30% discount!
