We recycled exactly what was offered by our township refuse pickup service. But we knew we were overdue for breaking our habits on plastic bag usage. But in August of 2016, after an over rushed shopping trip, we were forced to examine our shopping habits and adopt cleaner habits, asap!
Despite our attempt to bring a canvas bag or ask for "paper" at the checkout (both of which we did) was a mute gesture toward eliminating the problems of plastics in our water. Unpacking our market bags, we looked at the plastic wrapped cucumbers, and every item we had selected placed in separate produce bags. All completely unnecessary, as most of these vegetables over-ripen when placed in plastic.
We are working on solutions for these problems like creating smaller market bags for easier transport, in recycled and/or waterproof fabrics, with a variety of styles. Hang with us as we work to bring more options to our community.
